Overview

The Chitral valley is the historic home to tow main ethnic group, Ancient Chitralis and the Kalash. Ancient Chitralis, called Kho, probly came from Afghanistan. Local legends recall a golden age around the 8th century under a semi mythical Buddhist king called Bahaman, at around the same time a Chinese army temporarily occupied the valley .smaller number of kalashi have simultaneously occupied several small valleys stretching in to Afghanistan, where they followed their own religion and claimed to be descendants of Alexander the Great armies. Although Tamerlane subdued Chitral en route to Punjab in 1398, even he took a beating from the tough Kalash.

Chitral city is 365km from Peshawar and connected through Lowari pass. Chitral is located in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province. Chitral valley is situated on the western bank of Chitral River which is called Kunar River at the foot of Tirch Mir the highest peak 7708m of the Hinduksh.

Chitral is most beautiful and Historical valley in Pakistan. Polo ismost popular game of this valley. Many tourists have come from different corners of the world to enjoy the natural beauty and to fulfill their dreams. The best session to visit Chitral is in summer May to mid of October. The Kalash are indigenous people residing in the Chitral district in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. They are speaking kalashi Language. They are related to the Nuristan people of the adjacent Nuristan. Historically known as Kafiristan province of Afghanistan. The Kalash people celebrate the end of winter in May each year with the Joshi Spring festival. Manytourists came to Kalash to enjoy the festival with the local people. Kalash people live in three remote mountain valleys Bumburet, Rumbur, and Birir. These Valleys are opening toward the Kunar River. 20km south of Chitral city. A mountain pass located at a height of 3000m connects the Birir and Bumburet valleys. The Kalash people have distinctive culture which is completely in contrast with the other tribe living closed by in their religion, Sacrifices are offered and festivals held to thanks the bountiful resources in their area.
